Papua New Guinea : Poor sanitation and water quality fuelling cholera

Via ABC's Radio Australia :

" The cholera epidemic in Papua New Guinea's capital Port Moresby is spreading.

Last month, PNG's Health Minister Sasa Zibe declared a public health emergency in the capital, Port Moresby, after the latest flare-up of a cholera outbreak first detected in remote provinces in August last year.

This most recent cluster of cases have been detected in coastal villages around Port Moresby.

The Secretariat of the Pacific Community in PNG says animal and human health specialists are working together to combat the disease.

It says cholera in animals and humans forms in a very similar way."
