" H1N1 infection which has resurfaced in the district has resulted in the death of two pregnant women.
Dipika (19), a resident of Bhadravati and Roopa (23) from Durgigudi area in Shimoga are the victims.
Dipika who was in third trimester of pregnancy complained of cough, fever and respiratory problems last month. She was hospitalised in Manipal on July 1. However, she failed to respond to the treatment and died on July 13.
Symptoms of H1N1 were noticed in Roopa, who was in her second trimester of pregnancy. She was admitted to a hospital in Manipal last month. She breathed her last on July 15.
District Health Officer Dr Channabasappa informed Deccan Herald that Department of Health and Family Welfare came to know about the incident only after the deaths of Dipika and Roopa were reported. He also said he had received a report on July 16 from the doctors who attended to Dipika and Roopa."
