" PUNE: Two school students succumbed to the H1N1 influenza, in the current academic session which got under way on June 7. Among the total 80 H1N1 casualties since April, these are the only cases of students.
It has been a year since the first H1N1 casualty in India, 14-year-old Reeda Shaikh, succumbed to the infection on August 3 last year.
Among the 130 students found positive since the beginning of the new academic session, 45 were reported to be from primary schools followed by 38 from nursery schools, 26 from higher secondary schools, 13 from professional colleges and eight from colleges.
As many as 74 infected students were reported from 52 educational institutions in Pune Municipal Corporation limits. This is followed by 41 positive students from 27 educational institutions in Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation limits, 12 from 27 institutes in the rural parts of Pune district and three students from three cantonment schools.
"Among the 130 infected students, 46 are schools students who have recovered and have started attending classes. A total of 48 students have presently been isolated at their homes and 25 are being treated at various hospitals in the district," a state health official said."
