St. Kitts and Nevis : Eight Confirmed Dengue Cases In St. Kitts

Via Winn FM, confirmed dengue cases show up in St. Kitts :

" St. Kitts and Nevis : Eight cases of Dengue fever on St. Kitts have been confirmed with no deaths reported according to the Ministry of Health. A press release Wednesday stated that evidence confirms earlier clinical suspicion of an increase in Dengue activity in St. Kitts only, following tests carried out in July and September last year.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Patrick Martin told WINN FM on Wednesday that there is no need for alarm. “The situation right now appears to be at a mild level when you compared to previous outbreaks in 2001 and 2008,” Dr. Martin said. He said the mosquito source reduction and control measures must continue.

According to the CMO tests so far indicate the circulating virus to be Dengue Type 2; the same serotype as in previous outbreaks in 2001 and 2008. He pointed out persons affected in the past by Type 2 are likely immune for life and that if this serotype pattern continues, the chance of a widespread outbreak is decreased."
