" Twelve dengue deaths were recorded from January until May 14, compared with 58 deaths during the same period last year, indicating a 79 percent drop.
Health Director-General Datuk Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman said during that period, a 57 percent decrease was seen with 7,724 cases reported this year compared with 17,981 cases in 2010.
However, week 19 of this year from May 8 to 14 showed a rise with 382 cases from 334 cases in the previous week.
"Nine states registered increases last week, namely Selangor with 33 cases, Terengganu (seven), Perak (seven), Kedah (six), Johor (six), Sabah (two) and Sarawak with two cases.
"Melaka and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya recorded an increase of one case each compared to the previous week," he said in a statement here today."
