New Zealand : Meningococcal suspected in Taranaki

Article via TVNZ :

" Meningococcal disease appears to have spread to Taranaki, with two suspected cases of the rapidly-moving infection reported over the weekend.

Wellington and Northland have been hit hard with cases of B and C strains of meningococcal disease over the past three months, killing five people and hospitalising more than a dozen others.

Greg Simmons of the Taranaki District Health Board said a child under 10 and a young adult had been admitted to hospital on Saturday with suspected cases of the infection.

The two reports appeared to be unrelated and both patients were recovering, but the situation was still rare, Simmons told the Taranaki Daily News."
