Indonesia : Jakarta Health Agency takes blood samples of 10 residents for fear of bird flu spread

" The Jakarta Health Agency has taken the blood samples of 10 residents in Sunter, North Jakarta, who were suspected of coming into direct contact with a bird flu patient who died recently.

The head of the agency, Dien Emmawati, said on Tuesday that the people lived in the same neighborhood on Jl. Ancol Selatan, Sunter Agung, Tanjung Priok, where the 23-year-old patient died. The result will be revealed next week, tribunnews.com reported.

She said that following a two week period following Jan.7 her office would tightly monitor the area in anticipation of the spread of the so-called H5N1 virus.

Meanwhile, the city's Agency for Marine Affairs and Fisheries official Ipih Ruyani said that the authority would raid chicken and bird farms in Semanan, West Jakarta, Cipayung, East Jakarta and Tebet, South Jakarta."
