Philippines : Leptospirosis hits 179 Iloilo residents

" Health officials recorded a total of 179 cases of leptospirosis in Iloilo for the first two months of the year.

The Iloilo Provincial Health Office said leptospirosis cases are up by 251%. Data showed that there were 179 cases recorded in the province from January 1 to February 25, compared to the same period last year with 51.

Four individuals died from the infection, which is caused by direct exposure to bacteria found in animal urine and feces.

The highest number of cases was reported in Cabatuan town with 58."
