" Itanagar, July 2: Malaria is stalking flood-hit Dibang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh with the administration finding it difficult to battle gusty wind, incessant rain and landslides.
The monthlong health camps conducted in different parts of the district by the health department have detected 364 cases of malaria. There is, however, no report of any death.
District medical officer A. Yirang said malaria had spread to suburban areas of district headquarters at Roing besides the hilly interiors.
“Twenty-eight health camps were conducted in different parts of the district in the last one month. Of the 3,960 blood samples tested, 364 contain malaria parasites,” Yirang said.
“There is no report of death though we are awaiting information from the remotest pockets of the district which is cut off from the district headquarters at Roing. Altogether 2,115 mosquito nets were distributed. We are not taking any chances and have sent a medical team with anti-malaria drugs and medical equipment in low-lying as well as far-flung areas through boats and helicopters.”
