"VAPI: Several posh housing societies in the city in the past one week have witnessed a large number of mosquito transmitted diseases. During the period, 13 cases of chikungunya, six of dengue and 25 of malaria have been reported from in and around Vapi with Nehru Street being the most affected.
The outbreak of mosquito transmitted diseases has made the health officials in the district rush to the city to initiate measures for vector control and launch an awareness campaign.
"We have deputed teams for surveillance in and around the city," said Dr Ajay Sanghvi, chief district health officer, Valsad.
Many people are coming from Vapi and adjoining rural areas to hospitals with complaints of fever, joint pain and body ache.
Vapi municipality chief officer S Seth said, "To control Aedes mosquitoes and their larva, we have started fogging in houses."
