Indonesia : Dengue fever alert declared in Majenang, C Java

" Cilacap, C Java : The Central Java district of Cilacap`s health office had declared dengue fever pandemic in Majenang sub-district areas, a local health worker said. "The pandemic status remains locally declared only at the health office. The status has yet to become the Cilacap district government`s official statement," Kuswantoro said here Tuesday.The pandemic status was given to Majenang sub-district because the number of dengue fever patients there had drastically increased over the past three months, he said.

"Forty people have so far been infected. In the same period of last year, only 10 people were infected," said the head of the Cilacap district`s disease prevention and eradication unit. In Cilacap district, the highest number of dengue fever cases was in Cilacap Tengah sub-district followed by Majenang sub-district, he said.Throughout Cilacap district, 195 people had been infected by the dengue virus over the past seven months. Three of them died, he said."
