" JOHOR BARU: Johor has recorded an increase in dengue cases in the second week of the year compared to the same corresponding period in 2010.
The state Health Department vector unit reported a total of 111 new dengue cases compared to 95 cases last year.
It is the second highest for the week among the states.
The unit’s insect studies department officer Mazlan Mohd Isa said in the first week of this year alone, a total of 50 dengue cases were recorded.
“The trend is worrying as we received reports of dengue cases almost every day,” he said during an anti-dengue seminar at Hospital Sultan Ismail here yesterday.
Mazlan said among the hotspots were Gelang Patah, Kampung Merdeka in Batu Pahat, Taman Molek and Taman Desa Cemerlang in Johor Baru."
