Media release from New Zealand's Ministry of Health with regards to the measles outbreak in the country, excerpt :
" An increase in new cases has been reported from Auckland region in the last 2 weeks (especially Auckland City).
As of Thursday 29 September 2011 (8:00 am):
- Twenty-two more new confirmed cases of measles have been reported in the last week, all from Auckland region (18 from Auckland, 2 from Waitemata and 2 from counties Manukau).
- More than half of the cases reported from Auckland region during the last increase are over 20 years of age.
- There have been 187 confirmed cases of measles since 30 May 2011 reported to Auckland Regional Public Health Service. Most of these cases (111) have been in Waitemata DHB.
- There have been 25 confirmed cases reported in the Waikato since 27July 2011.
- There have been 274 confirmed cases of measles in New Zealand since January 2011.
- Forty-two people with measles have needed hospital treatment so far this year, 20 of them in the last 20 days (including 18 from Auckland City)."
