Thailand : Vaccine trial's next phase ready to begin

Via Bangkok Post:

" The second and much larger phase of the clinical trial of the locally-made type-A (H1N1) influenza vaccine will start next week, the Government Pharmaceutical Organisation says.

The vaccine will be given to the first group of volunteers on Tuesday. The second-phase vaccine trial involves a total of 400 volunteers.

"The result of the first phase of the vaccine trial is that it is safe and has the potential to develop a person's immunity to the virus.

Otherwise we would not be continuing with the larger-scale human trial," GPO chairman Vichai Chokewiwat said.

The vaccine research team is still recruiting volunteers as it has yet to meet its target of 400 people.

The volunteers are categorised into three age groups: 12-18, 19-49 and over 49. Their symptoms will be closely monitored after receiving the vaccine."
