" Children in Canada are being hospitalized with serious drug-resistant superbug infections that doctors may not be suspecting in many cases, a nationwide survey suggests.
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections in children are occurring in most parts of the country, according to a new study from the Canadian Paediatric Surveillance Program, which collects data from more than 2,500 pediatricians and other specialists monthly to monitor rare diseases and conditions in Canadian children.
MRSA — a bacterium that is immune to a host of penicillin-type antibiotics — can cause infections of the skin and soft tissues beneath the skin, aggressive bone infections and severe pneumonia."
