" BANGALORE: As many as 266 cases of dengue and 326 cases of chikungunya have been reported in the State till June 28, according to Health Minister B. Sriramulu.
“However, no deaths have been reported due to these diseases”, Mr. Sriramulu told the Legislative Council on Wednesday in his reply to the issue raised by Janata Dal (Secular) member Abdul Azeem during Zero Hour.
Bangalore alone accounted for 93 confirmed cases of dengue and 41 confirmed cases of chikungunya, he noted.
The Minister maintained that these two epidemics were under control in the State due to adequate preventive measures taken by the Government.
Pointing out that both the epidemics were “insect-borne”, he said the Government had initiated steps to conduct a survey of mosquito breeding places besides taking up mosquito eradication in partnership with private and community organisations. As many as 898 fogging machines were being used for eradication of mosquitoes in the State, he said. A sum of Rs. 1.10 crore had been released for taking preventive measures against outbreak of the above epidemics, the Minister said."
