Malaysia : 4 new cases push dengue toll to 78

" KUALA LUMPUR: Four people died of dengue last week, bringing the toll from the disease to 78 from Jan 1 to June 26.

Two of the latest victims were in Sarawak and one each in Kedah and Malacca.

Director-general of Health Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said the deaths occurred in places noted for dengue outbreaks.

A total of 23,189 cases were reported between Jan 1 and June 26 compared with 24,543 cases and 62 deaths during the same period last year.

Dr Ismail said seven states had shown high incidence of dengue last week. They were Kelantan, Malacca, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Kedah and Sarawak. The number of Aedes mosquitoes hot spots had shot up from 24 in the previous week to 27 last week mainly in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johore, Kelantan, Pahang, Srawak and Negeri Sembilan."
