" JOHOR BARU: Johor recorded a 22% increase in dengue cases between January and July compared to the same period last year.
State Women, Family, Health and Community Development Committee chairman Dr Robia Kosai said as at July 3, there were 1,818 cases with seven deaths, compared to 1,490 cases with three deaths in the same period last year.
She said the increase was mostly due to the lack of cleanliness as well as the delay in seeking treatment when speaking at the Johor State Assembly yesterday.
“Johor Baru has the highest number of cases with 1,258, followed by Kluang with 144 and Segamat with 106,” she said in reply to Ayub Rahmat (BN-Kemelah) and Goh Tee Tee (BN-Tangkak), adding that measures were being taken by the state Health Department to curb the menace, including public education, gotong-royong activities and fogging.
State Tourism chairman Hoo Seong Chang said Johor was looking to add three homestay facilities to the current 15, due to increased interest from foreign and domestic tourists."
