" A year ago, Jodie and Kate Roche were part of a happy family unit of four.
But after losing their father Greg to cancer in August, the sisters are now mourning the loss of their beloved mum Lee, who is the first person in the Western Bay to die of H1N1 virus and the first New Zealander to die of the strain this year.
Jodie, 25, and Kate, 23, want their mum remembered as a generous optimist, who loved to help other people and whose "glass was always half full".
The sisters are stunned that a fit and healthy 48-year-old, who ate healthily and exercised daily, could die from influenza.
Lee first became sick six weeks before her death on June 26. She was staying with Kate in Auckland while attending a seminar and came home one night feeling unwell.
"She ended up staying extra nights because she was fluey and needed to be looked after," Kate recalled."
