" LEGAZPI CITY, July 8 : Albay Governor Joey Salceda has directed the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and the various district hospitals to intensify their respective sanitation and clean-up campaign to curb the rising incidence of dengue.
This, as the PHO noted Thursday the surge in dengue cases in Albay with 364 people inflicted by the mosquito borne disease in the past two quarters of this year.
The PHO epidemiology surveillance team said reports from filed units indicate that the current 364 dengue cases are alarmingly way above the 35 cases reported during the same period last year.
Salceda said dengue cases increased 10 times during the first half of the year and this may be attributed to the effect of the El Nino phenomenon spawned by climate change.
He said “until now we are still feeling the effect of the dry spell, people are still getting sick, they cannot work, thus affecting their way of life.”
