Philippines : DoH urges dengue pics warning

Via Manila Bulletin :

" The public must learn the perils of dengue. And if repeatedly bringing them the number does not make them realize the impact of the disease on their own family and community, maybe picture warnings would do the trick.

This was the proposal of the country’s new health chief as cases of dengue continue to rise in the country.

“We should also show them pictures of the disease because if it just numbers, sometimes it doesn’t ring a bell,” Department of Health (DoH) Secretary Enrique T. Ona told reporters in a conference Thursday.

Ona said dengue programs of local governments should also be strengthened and implemented to stem the number of dengue cases in the country.

From Jan. 1 up to June 26, Ona reported a total of 25,283 cases and 198 deaths nationwide. This figure is 40 percent higher than the data during the same period last year.

The regions with the most number of cases were Eastern Visayas, Calabarzon, Soccsksargen, National Capital Region (NCR), Central Visayas and Davao."
