" PAGADIAN CITY, April 18 : To drastically reduce dengue cases in the country and prevent deaths, the Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Science and Technology recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the National Rollout of Ovi-Larvi Trap System for Aedes mosquito.
Under the agreement DOST will provide 700,000 ovi-larvi trap kits to selected households nationwide in areas with high dengue cases free of charge to include ovi/larvi pellets for six months.
DOH will assist in the identification of high dengue sites, distribution of the traps and to conduct studies to verify the effectiveness of the said traps.
In 2010, it was noted that the country has experienced the worst dengue outbreak in 10 years. More than 135,355 cases were recorded exceeding the record high infection rates in 1998.
This year, although cases are still 7.71% lower compared to the same period last year, there has been an early dramatic peak in the number of cases and signs of another impending epidemic."
