Trinidad & Tobago : Dump site stirs dengue fears

Via News Day :

" IN LIGHT of reports about an increase in dengue cases, residents of Gasparillo are calling on the authorities to clean up a vacant lot which has become a rubbish heap of old refrigerators, metal containers and discarded appliances.

Concerned about the health risks of the garbage on the lot at Parforce Street, Gasparillo residents of nearby Gasper Green Gardens want the area cleared as soon as possible. One resident said the lot is a breeding ground for mosquitoes and rats.

“Just look at these old fridges and other appliances. This is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. When the rain falls, the water remains stagnant and this is causing a problem for us. "
