Foot-and-mouth disease detected in 5 Malaysian states

" PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia, Jan. 5 : Milk cattle farms in five Malaysian states have been affected by the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), the Malaysian Veterinary Services Department said on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters in Malaysia's federal administration center here, the department's director general Abdul Aziz Jamaluddin said the states included Kedah, Perak and Terengganu in northern Peninsula Malaysia, and Selangor and Negeri Sembilan in the central part of the peninsula.

Abdul Aziz said the Malaysian government had allocated 219 of the 300 milk cows to 56 cattle farms in the country in order to raise the milk production volume."
