" Officials of provincial swine flu surveillance cell confirmed that another patient had been diagnosed with H1N1 Type-A Influenza (swine flu) in Karachi, making the total confirmed cases of deadly viral disease to 12.

“A 42-year old woman, resident of Saddar Town, Rubina, was admitted at private Holy Family Hospital in Karachi with flu symptoms and her test showed that she is infected with the deadly strain of viral disease,” Swine Flu Surveillance Cell Incharge in Sindh Dr. Suresh Kumar told The News.

Earlier, a young patient Iftikharullah Khan had died of complications arising out of swine flu in Karachi last week, while some 12 people have been confirmed infected with the virus.

Dr Kumar said that the lady tested positive for swine flu was undergoing treatment at the private hospital while healthcare facilities, including isolation wards, had been set at Civil Hospital Karachi and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for suspected and confirmed swine flu patients.

Dr Kumar reiterated that there was no need to get panicky due to swine flu as it was similar to common flu and only becomes fatal if proper healthcare was not provided to the infected patient."
