Unidentified lung disease in S Korea may be caused by humidifier disinfectants

Via Xinhua :

" Humidifier disinfectants could be the direct cause of an unidentified lung disease that led to the deaths of a few pregnant women in South Korea, the state-run disease control agency said Wednesday.

According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC), an epidemiological investigation of patients with the lung disease showed that the use of humidifier disinfectants raised the possibility of the disease occurrence as high as 47.3 times.

However, the KCDC said a cause-and-effect relationship between the disinfectants and the lung disease has not been fully confirmed, and that an additional epidemiological investigation and a risk assessment are to follow in the next three months."
