Malaysia : UM's BSL-3 Research Facility To Help Find New Vaccines

" Malaysia's first modular safety research facility has been established at University Malaya (UM) here to discover new vaccines for tropical infectious deseases such as H1N1, SARS, Nipah and dengue.

Known as modular biosafety level 2/3 research facility (BSL-3), it has been certified for both engineering and security design, thus, it provides a safe working environment to scientists.

UM deputy vice chancellor (academic & international) Professor Hamzah Abdul Rahman said the facility haD a specific set of standard operating procedures to minimise risks of exposure to infectious agents."
