Scotland : War Hero And New Mum Fall Victim To Swine Flu

Via Scottish Daily Express :

" A GULF War hero and a young mother who gave birth just days before she died are the latest victims of the swine flu virus.

As health officials appealed for calm, further deaths added to the growing panic surrounding the spread of the H1N1 strain.

Sarah Applin, 32, of Thurston, near Bury St Edmunds, died at West Suffolk Hospital on Tuesday.
The mother-of-two had given birth to her son William on December 22. The infant is now being cared for in the hospital’s special baby care unit.

A hospital spokesman last night said his mother had “died from complications with pneumonia following treatment for swine flu”.

Mrs Applin’s parents, Jane and Barry Waterman, run the White Horse pub at Beyton, near Bury St Edmunds.

Her devastated husband Richard, 41, was left to look after their newborn son and the couple’s three-year-old daughter, Charlotte."
