" THE flu epidemic gripping Britain has claimed at least 50 lives so far and vaccinations against the killer virus are likely to run out in days, it emerged yesterday.
Almost one in three of the victims was perfectly healthy with no underlying symptoms before they fell ill.
Increasing public alarm at the scale of the epidemic has prompted a growing number of people to demand the seasonal flu jab from their doctor.
But with vaccine supplies becoming low, the Government has ordered any GPs who run out to instead offer patients swine flu jabs left over from the 2009 outbreak to ensure they have at least some protection.
Officials now admit that a complete review of how flu jabs are ordered is needed to find out what went wrong this winter.
The decision to offer old jabs to patients came amid fears that swine flu is continuing to kill younger people or make them seriously ill."
