Australia : 'Good start' to dengue eradication trials

An article from ABC News :

" Scientists say a trial in far north Queensland aimed at stopping mosquitoes from transmitting dengue fever is showing early signs of success.

In January, thousands of mosquitoes infected with the wolbachia bacterium were released in Gordonvale, south of Cairns, and Yorkeys Knob in the city's north.

The bacteria prevents mosquitoes from infecting humans with dengue fever.

Field trial manager Brian Montgomery says early tests indicate 20 per cent of mosquitoes in the two areas are now infected with wolbachia."
