Hong Kong : Case of Group A Streptococcal infection requiring ICU admission

" The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health is investigating a case of Group A Streptococcal infection, which required Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admission, involving a 37-year-old man with chronic illness.

The patient was admitted to Caritas Medical Centre on August 31 with fever and confusion. Following admission, he was transferred to the hospital's ICU on the same day for treatment.

As his condition stabilised after treatment, he was transferred back to the general ward on September 2. His current condition is stable.

The patient's blood specimen taken on August 31 grew Streptococcus Pyogenes (Group A)."
