" Reported dengue cases in Dingras, Ilocos Norte has reached 70, prompting the local government to place the town under a state of calamity.
The local government fears that hospitals in Ilocos Norte may not be able to accommodate the dengue victims.
In Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital alone, 60 patients are being treated for dengue.
Ilocos Sur was also placed under a state of calamity as the number of dengue cases continue to rise at an alarming rate.
For the period of January to July 2011, dengue cases have almost reached 1,000, compared to 1,077 reported dengue cases in 2010, according to the provincial health office.
Eight deaths were also reported during the same period, compared to 17 deaths in the whole of 2010."
