India : No need to panic, says Central team

" THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The swine flu situation in the State is not out of control and there is no need to panic, said Dr.Sunil Gupta, joint director, National Institute of Communicable Diseases, who headed the Central team that assessed the situation in the State.

Talking to reporters here on Friday after a two-day visit to the State, Dr. Gupta said that though at present more cases of swine flu had been reported in the State than any other States in the country, the situation may change any time. The virus has become active owing to the monsoon, he added.

Fever cases

A total of 12,520 fever cases were reported in the State on Friday of which 23 were dengue cases and four malaria cases. Rest of the cases were reported as viral fever. Malappuram recorded the maximum number of fever cases with 2,089 followed by Thrissur 2,051, Ernakulam 1,373 and Thiruvananthapuram 1,288.


Three test positive for H1N1 in Thrissur

Thrissur: Three cases of H1N1 were confirmed in the district on Friday. Official sources said that the three infected women were from Vadakkakad, Mullassery and Kuttanellur in the district. Of the three, two have been admitted to district hospital here, while the other is undergoing treatment at a private hospital here. Throat swabs of four suspected cases were also sent for examination on Friday, sources added.


17 Tribals hospitalised

Thrissur: With the symptoms of viral hepatitis, 17 tribals, including 12 children and 5 women from the Cherunelly Tribal Colony at the Nelliyampathi forests in Palakkad districts, were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital here on Friday.

Hospital senior superintendent Dr K Mohanan said the condition of the tribals is not serious. However, they are undergoing tests to diagnose the disease."
