" The four national service trainees down with Influenza A (H1N1) virus in the state are showing signs of recovery.
State Health, Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said the trainees were responding well to medication.
“The three students from Kem Syruz in Machang Bubok are getting better, but are still quarantined as we want to continue monitoring them.
“The other student from White Resort camp in Balik Pulau is also under quarantine and is reported stable,” he said.
The three Kem Syruz trainees were said to have contracted the virus when they returned to their respective homes for Qing Ming two weeks ago. Last week, another student in the White Resort camp was confirmed to be down with the virus.
Phee said medical officers were conducting regular health checks for all trainees and staff there.
Although the cases were considered isolated, he said the virus could spread if it was not contained.
“Maintaining personal hygiene is of utmost importance. Moreover, the hot weather and occasional downpour sometimes cause people to catch cold easily,” he said.
Phee said there were 18 people with influenza-like illness (ILI) in hospitals in the state."
