" More than 250 people showed up at government clinics with symptoms of Dengue fever over the weekend, the Ministry of Health revealed in a statement yesterday.
The ministry said that 254 people with Dengue fever symptoms came into the Elizabeth Estates, Fleming Street, Flamingo Gardens and South Beach clinics as well as the Princess Margaret Hospital over the Emancipation Day weekend.
Laboratory tests have confirmed that 49 of those cases have been confirmed as Dengue fever.
Testing is ongoing for hospitalized Dengue patients and for clinical cases of Dengue symptoms in children younger than five years old.
Last week Minister of Health Dr. Hubert Minnis said more than 90 cases of Dengue fever had been confirmed and hundreds had displayed Dengue fever symptoms.
Dengue fever is transmitted through the bite of the aedes aegypti mosquito.
The Department of Environmental Health Services recently commenced fogging throughout New Providence and some of the Family Islands in order to reduce the mosquito population."
