" THE Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday reiterated its warning to the public and the various local governments not to be complacent against dengue as the disease continuous to increase.
Dr. Lyndon Lee Suy, health program manager on emerging and reemerging infectious diseases, said in press conference that the health agency has recorded from January to July 23 38,876 dengue cases—with 226 deaths, lower by 50 percent compared to the same period in 2010.
Most of the cases and deaths were from the 1 to 10 years age group.
The National Capital Region had the highest number of dengue victims at 9,229, Central Luzon (6,365), Calabarzon (5,649), Ilocos Region (3,432) and Cagayan Valley (2,737).
It also revealed that the highest number of dengue cases every year was recorded at the National Capital Region and the cities with the most number of cases were Quezon City with 2,574; Kalookan City, 1,104; Manila City, 1,040; Pasig City, 804; and Valenzuela City, 664."
