" In the first swine flu fatality in Kerala after a gap of three months, a middle-aged man died of the deadly virus at a private hospital in Kollam district, Health department officials said today.
S Anilkumar (42) was admitted to the hospital on May 11 with symptoms of swine flu. He died last evening.
This was the first death due to swine flu being reported in the state after a gap of three months. Since the outbreak of the viral infection last year, 38 people had succumbed to the virus, they said.
Currently, one person suffering from swine flu is under hospital quarantine and four cases under home quarantine in the state, officials said.
As the monsoon is soon arriving in the state, the Health department had alerted all district centres to take up precautionary steps, a department spokesperson said.
Nearly 1,500 swine flu deaths had been reported in the country since the epidemic broke out in May last year."
