Mexico: A bizarre report

Courtesy of Crof from H5N1, as the title says indeed a bizarre report :

" SAGARPA "pardons" 800,000 Bachoco chickens infected with bird flu.

Farmers of the Northern Baja California Poultry Production System said that at least 800,000 chickens of the Bachoco enterprise, infected by bird flu in Mexicali, were not sacrificed even though policy required it, and that the outbreak has been known since October 2009.

They also confirmed that the infected birds continued to produce eggs for human consumption, at a rate of around 12,000 cartons per week. Despite this, Genaro López Bojórquez, state delegate of SAGARPA, argued that the eggs produced by these birds are not a hazard for human health, because the virus was found to be of low pathogenicity."
