Malaysia - Negligent healthcare givers won’t be shielded

Via The Star:

" The Health Ministry will not shield any doctor, clinic or hospital found negligent in treating patients with influenza-like illnesses (ILI) resulting in death.

Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, who issued the warning, said the ministry took a serious view of such cases, following yet another death, this time of a 42-year-old lawyer at a private hospital in Johor Baru.

”I have also directed that a team of specialists be sent to a private hospital in Kuantan for a more thorough investigation into the case of a four-year-old girl who died on April 3 due to complications from A(H1N1).

“We want to get to the bottom of the matter and ascertain whether there was any element of negligence involving the hospital,” he said after meeting Pahang MCA leaders at a hotel here yesterday.

Liow, who is the MCA deputy president and state party chief, said the ministry had directed all government and private hospitals to treat those with ILI seriously. and administer anti-viral treatment immediately to high-risk patients."
